The 2015-2016 harvest of this olive oil is delicate and aromatic. It has a fruity fragrance, with bright hints of tomato and fresh cut grass. Its flavor is incredibly smooth, with notes of artichoke and bell peppers, gently bitter with a pleasant spice. Sicilian olive oil is famous for its outstanding qualities, and our Pianogrillo EVOO is a prime example of this tradition. Its complex, lively flavor will add zest to salads, pastas, soups, pizza and plain good bread!

Pianogrillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced organically by Lorenzo Piccione in the town of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa, from a local variety called Tonda Iblea. “Tonda” refers to the olives’ beautiful round shape, and “Iblea” comes from the Monti Iblei in southeast Sicilia, where this olive is thought to have originated.

The olives are harvested at the perfect maturity in October, individually hand-picked and gathered in wood crates and immediately transported to the family-owned mill. While the olive grove is ancient - some trees are nearly 1000 years old - the production process is modern and clean, combining the best of Sicilian olive tradition with the latest technological innovations to produce a truly outstanding olive oil.

Lorenzo is an artist, concert pianist, farmer, winemaker and most importantly, a dedicated olive oil producer. Lorenzo has transformed his historic property into a modern farm, where he preserves the flavors and traditions handed down in his family through generations. In addition to his outstanding Pianogrillo extra virgin olive oil, Lorenzo produces Salsa Pianogrillo, a superb salsa pronta, and Estratto, a rich tomato extract.
