When I heard that a new restaurant, Ducale, opened in my neighbourhood, the Upper West Side, I was thrilled. When the kind owner, Matthew, asked to sample our Sant’Eustachio coffee, I was even more thrilled! I personally delivered the coffee immediately and made a reservation for 5 for the next night. I had read some great reviews on Yelp and other places. They even said they didn’t want to divulge the secret.
What secret? While the place is lovely and the meal not expensive, the service was not good: they made a mistake with our order and service was so slow that our friends said our coffee would have no future there, since everybody would leave before even ordering coffee and dessert. Perhaps it was just our impatience, but if the food had been simpler, it would be better. A couple of days after, Jerry, the nice chef from Sicilia, came to visit us in the warehouse in the Bronx and bought some samples to try in the restaurant. Who knows: there might be hope.
PS they don’t have the wine license, yet, therefore, if you want a different wine than the house wine which is not bad at all, you should bring your own bottle.
